MONKS 3

When we visited Myanmar we had no idea that a simple visit to a monks bowl factory would be so exciting. There is something about the shape and texture that just makes you want one (we got one). The factory manager and staff were so friendly and we spent a long time looking and photographing the people and the bowls.

Most people are more than happy to have their pictures taken . There are always the exceptions but overall people in Myanmar really want to promote the incoming tourists for business. But they are gracious as well.

Monks bowls are for the life of the monk and are sometimes repaired at places like these.

The bowls are larger than the food that they will collect and must eat before noon every day. They may collect for others as well and are not allowed to keep any “leftovers” the process must be performe every day.

As there are more that 500,000 monks in Myanmar you can be sure that some monks are economic and not spiritual but the strength to follow this regime cannot be deinied

A great day was had by all and we learned a lot and the surrounding countryside was beautiful
